I am a tall, proud, beautiful Boricua.  I was born and raised in Puerto Rico.  I moved to Michigan when I was 12 and to my surprise I loved it, out side of the cold.  I have the best family in the world, we are all a little crazy but that is what makes us so loveable.  :) I am married to the most wonderful man in the world. We love to laugh and have fun. We have a beautiful daughter who is the light of our lives. She is currently in our phenomenal woman training program.

I have a Bachelor in Communication from the University of Michigan, a Masters in Counseling from Eastern Michigan University, and a Masters in Communication at The University of Texas El Paso. I am currently working on my PhD in Educational Management in Higher Education at Hampton University. I am the Associate Registrar for Portland Community College in Oregon.

Why did you create DTL:

As humans we are creatures of habit and I am not different. Therefore, setting out to create a new Latina sorority was not something I entered into lightly. However, my desire to create an organization that would empower Latinas and women of color and that would give back to their communities was greater than any fear or hesitation. Once we started to outline the dream, layout the vision, and create the foundation we knew we were well on our way. Whenever I am asked of my greatest accomplishment I always say DTL. It was, and is, hard work but no experience or job has been as rewarding as this labor of love!

Things I would want my Sorors to know about me:

That I am passionate, loving, strong, emotional, weak, perfect while imperfect, proud with some regrets, not so wild but still crazy, amazed, empowered, empowering, sweet but sometimes a little mean, want to do my best but sometimes I fall short, accomplished and yearning for more, complete with some things missing, lucky, traditional but contemporary, a paradigm, and a dichotomy, but most of all.... I am blessed.  I am blessed to have a great family; to have met, fell in love with, and marry my soul mate and best friend; and to have great sisters and friends.

Advice I would give to my Sorors:

Don't let fear or anger stop you from becoming/being the woman you are meant to be.  Life is too short to carry around guilt, anger, sadness, and/or jealousy.  If you think you owe someone an apology, call them today.  If you regret not doing something yesterday, do it today.  If you feel like buying yourself a little present, do it.  We all deserve something nice every once in a while, just don't spend your mortgage or rent money on it, remember I said a little something! :)

Love Yourselves!  Can't nobody love you like you can love you!!

Influential woman(en) in your Life:

My beautiful mother and grandmother. Their integrity, love, sincerity, care, determination and characters have shaped my life more than they will ever know.  My daughter Amarilis has given my life a new sense of purpose, wonder, and amazement. All my beautiful sisters, all of you have enriched my life in ways I never thought possible.
